Tradition, Art, Culture ...
Preserve tradition and cherish customs: Many big and small festivals mark the seasons: carnival the so-called “fifth season”, Palm Sunday, the Feast of Corpus Christi, several town festivals, “Kräuterbüschel” in August, where herbs and flowers are bound in the form of cartwheels and blessed, wine festivals in autumn, the Christmas market and the programme around the opening of the windows of the town-hall turned Advent calendar: there is always a reason to celebrate!
Our tip: We love festivities – come join us! Don’t miss out on accompanying one of our night guards on their evening walking tour of Gengenbach’s historic center (free of charge for guest card holders). Gengenbach is also a festival and cultural town. We have a lot to offer: theater, plays, music, readings, cabarets and concerts.
Three museums in the historic center present carnival, rafting and military history. The fourth museum, Haus Löwenberg, hosts special art exhibitions worth seeing. A unique annual highlight is the Gengenbach Advent Calendar - the largest house advent calendar of the world - with pictures of famous artists such as Marc Chagall, Otmar Alt or Tomi Ungerer. The Christmas market invites you with its homely atmosphere. The old town of Gengenbach becomes a winter fairy tale – a magic transformation which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Come and let yourself be enchanted!
... Culinary Delights
Not too eager to cook yourself? Whether you are looking for regional delicatessen, traditional dishes or a hearty “Vesper“ (a cold meal with local specialties such as farmer’s bread, Black Forest Ham and home-made cheeses), Baden’s cuisine leaves nothing to be desired. One of its biggest assets is the closeness to the producers.
